“What is beauty?” I asked the woods. “Is it synthetic? Photo shopped? Expensive?”
The trees said, “Nope.”
“Is it gendered and race-bound?” I asked. “Is it white, and thin? Is it what gives sexual and aesthetic pleasure to the dominant class?”
The sky said, “No.”
Is beauty passive, then? Is it docile and non-threatening? Does it lie down and pose for pictures?
The wolf and the cougar said, “Uh uh.”
Beauty, they told me, is what everything has, when it is free and true.
